hanging art and other stories

I have been hanging art ALL DAY. It’s a good thing someone’s not paying me cause i’ve got a high hourly fee. For 6 or 7 hours MK and I and Dora too half the time, stood around in bare feet on the concrete floor of the gas station converted into Macon’s Welcome Center, contemplating the arrangement of 13 oils and any number of small watercolors to hang on the walls. The opening reception is tomorrow and this is the first time I have ever hung art, but don’t tell anyone, i think they think i’m a pro, and MK too. We tacked up a string at the 63″ line (maybe my line of sight but not many other folks) to be professional-looking and measured and marked (on our newly spot-painted walls which we are very proud of), until we had each piece in the best possible place and not but 2 nails that we had to redo. Yes, I am very proud of the results.

This morning Mr Boyd texted me to get a few details straight about my aunt for the write-up in the paper. Sometime after 2, he put the paper out (he must have a newspaper printer in the back of the shop there), that is, out in the rack out front, and immediately the stream of folks started showing up to pick up their 50¢ copy—I love small towns. D and I drove up (after a break) and talked to S who immediately handed the honoree several copies of the paper, because she was on the front page! (“I had to a get your photo from you facebook page,” he confessed, now that’s pretty resourceful). A minute later at Senter’s hardware, D was recognized as a celebrity and immediately thereafter at the bank everyone chatted delightedly with her about the show. The celebrity of the day, right there. Oh I SO love a small town! Now, when do I get my facebook photo on the front page of the Beacon?
